Using a Healthy Weight Range
A healthy weight range converts BMI 18.5-24.9 back to weight; it is not a personal ideal. It gives a reference window; set goals with body fat, waist, medical history and sustainability in mind.
How it is calculated
Lower = 18.5 times height squared; upper = 24.9 times height squared.
Inside the range does not guarantee health, and outside does not guarantee disease.
Setting a goal
Start with a 5 to 10 percent goal; it is more sustainable than chasing the midpoint.
Add strength training and track waist and fitness, not just weight.
FAQ
What if I am below the lower bound?
Assess diet, illness and stress, and seek care if needed.
Is faster weight loss better?
No; 0.5 to 1 kg per week is more common and easier to sustain.
